My name is Maryam Olaitan, a contemporary artist creating expressive art rooted in emotion, and introspection. My artistic journey began quietly—with pencil sketches across the margins of school notebooks. Those early doodles weren't just play; they were the earliest glimpses of my creative voice, unfolding long before I recognized it as art.
Today, I use abstract illustrations to explore the intangible—what's felt but not always spoken. My art is an emotional mirror, a conversation between silence and symbolism, between you and me.
Artist Statement
My art is inspired by memory, silence, color, and emotional honesty. I work instinctively, allowing each piece to evolve as a visual expression of what can't be fully articulated in words. Every stroke is intentional yet intuitive—meant to evoke, not explain.
I deliberately avoid assigning fixed meanings to my pieces. Art, I believe, should remain open-ended—allowing the viewer's perception to complete the work. This freedom invites deeper emotional engagement and encourages you to reflect on your own experiences through mine.
My Artistic Journey
My creative awakening didn't happen in a studio or gallery. It happened slowly, through private sketches, bursts of imagination, and quiet returns to self-expression.
Reconnecting with art in adulthood has been healing and liberating. It allows me to tell stories without constraint, using abstract forms and colors to explore emotions, vulnerability, and personal truth. Sharing that journey publicly now is a bold act of both courage and creativity.

My process is minimalist but emotionally rich. I often begin with color—the mood—before form and figure follow. Each artwork reflects a balance between chaos and clarity.
I use digital tools not for convenience, but for how they allow fluidity and precision. Krita, Procreate, and Adobe tools are my mediums of choice, helping me translate emotion into composition.
